When I was barely out of the toddler stage my parents set me up with a record player and a collection of 45 and 78RPM records. I sat for hours listening to the likes of This Old Man Came Rolling Home and Sailing Sailng. At age 5 my mom taught me harmonica. At 6 I got a plastic guitar for Christmas. At 7, I started begging for piano lessons. And so on. In high school band I played trumpet, then tuba, then bass for the jazz band.
While I can hold my own, I am not really that good at any instrument. And during adulthood my love for music and thoughts of stardom faded into other things, especially a love of serving people.
Now in my third trimester of life, I’ve decided to share some of the music that has come to me over several decades, and maybe even some new songs. My persuasion is Christian: I find that no other belief system comes close in promoting a world view of love for all, especially the hurt and vulnerable. And I hope to share some tunes that touch on that topic, among other things.
I have also recently begun a podcast with Judy, my awesome wife of 43+ years. Here we talk about the beginning of our commitment to folks at the bottom.
